As well as the obvious requirement for spark resistant PPE to protect from welding arcs and burns, such as long welding sleeves, welding apron, welding gloves, and protective eyewear, HSE also advise that respiratory protection for welding is used.
Exposure to welding fumes (including mild steel welding) can lead to lung cancer and possibly kidney cancer, and so respiratory equipment is an essential part of welding protection equipment. Masks or PAPR solutions should include a high-quality auto-darkening welding headtop such as those available from both Pureflo and Drager, who also provide head tops for supplied air welding set ups.
Ask the experts at Anchor Safety about all our welding gear, including welding fume masks, and ensure that the respirator helmet you use is up to the task.
